Big Sister
I'm sure you all know by now (especially if you are a FB friend), but Lucy is going to be a big sister in January. EEK!
I'm so excited and scared to death. Lucy has been an only for six years (7 before baby arrives) and Wes and I have spent those years with the majority of our energy focused on her. She is such a unique and enjoyable human being. We have snuggled and kissed on her every second she'll allow it. She's been photographed within an inch of her life.
Starting sometime in January she's going to have to share all that. Of course I know that she will adjust and be awesome as usual, but I'm nervous anyway- it's what I do. We talk now about how new babies take a lot of time and attention. She's super excited.
I remember absolutely nothing about caring for a newborn. Tonight I found myself flipping through this blog trying to remember what you do with a newborn, when they hit certain milestones, what size clothes they wear when. Then I started wondering if it even really mattered that I don't remember. This new little person may look a little like Lucy but it's guaranteed that this baby will be his/her very own person in every way.
Lucy has never been just like me or Wes- she is uniquely herself. It's a wonder and a privilege to watch her grow into her personality. I loved infant Lucy and toddler Lucy and pre-k Lucy and now big ol' sassy 6 year old Lucy and I can't wait to get to know big sister Lucy. I also can't wait to meet and get to know this new little one and see who the two of them are together.
