centennial park fountains revisited

Last weekend we met some friends at the park to let the kiddos run around in the fountains. We got to hang out with old friends from pharmacy school and their babies. Last time I hung out with Janet and Martha we were still students and not Mommies. It was good to catch up. And of course since Haden was in town we had to meet up with him and his folks too. We had a blast and can't wait to see everyone again SOON!

A Day With Papa

This is Lucy before I left for work on this particular morning
This is photographic evidence that she and Papa had a little too much fun while I was away.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

We are in a struggle to try and revert Lucy to her previous habit of saying "yes". Now she says "yeah" or "yeh-ya". We correct her with "yes" which she will then repeat but it seems a sysiphean struggle. Allison pushes the politeness words "yes sir" and "yes maam" which la luz will do but only when prompted. When she says the later it comes out sounding more like the Indian provence "Assam".
I think the deevolution of her vocabulary in this instance is due to the daycare.
(a better music oriented title would be "clap your hands and say YES MAAM" but I actually like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and don't like clap your hands and say yeah.)

4th of July Weekend

Lucy had a busy holiday weekend, even before the Emergency Room. So busy in fact that I didn't even know that Sarah Palin had announced her resignation as governor until Saturday! (That's the kind of thing I would usually know. Thursday was her 2nd cousin once removed Diego's 13th birthday and we went to a Braves game to celebrate
This also happened to be Lucy's first baseball game. She had a good time but ran her mom and Marina (and a very strict Turner Field usher) ragged. She stayed awake for the whole game and the ride home. That's late.
Earlier thursday we visited Marla and her daughter Maddie in Canton, GA. We went swimming at their subdivision's pool (one of their subdivisions pools). But mostly I was excited about a staged photo-op I had in mind involving watermelon. Here are the results.
Friday, July 3rd was spent at Stone Mountain Park. Lucy rode a train and watched a Lazer show spectacular. The lazer show is pretty much the same as 20 years ago. I dont think Lucy really liked it. It was loud and she was pretty frayed by then. She did however love repeatedly attempting to escape us in the giant crowd on the lawn. That and some glowing sticks that a nice person next to us gave us (I was under pressure to buy her some type of lighting toy but getting in and out of the spot was a major production I sought to avoid).
July 4th was all home, with Grannie and Mom and then the ER.

Emergency Room

Lucy made her debut appearance at the ER last night after she shoved a piece of corn from our yummy July 4th dinner up her nose. After several unsuccessful attempts at retrieval with a pair of tweezers I admitted defeat and packed us up and headed to the ER. Luckily, the ER wasn't busy so we got right in. The doc tried to dig the corn out with a pair of hemostats (read: medical tweezers) then the nurse suggested we try to blow it out. So the doc pinched the unaffected nostril closed then I blew in Lucy's mouth. Sure enough that corn shot right out! We all cheered and Lucy beamed like she had done something extraordinary.
