Fountain

Lucy and I and my friend Trish from work visited the Centennial park fountain today. Lucy had fun, didnt want to leave. I think she started thinking she had fantasia like control of the water.

Summer is for Swimming

Lucy is into the swimming. She asks for it randomly. She says "swim" or "swimming" and waves her arms at you (though oddly enough she doesn't always wave her arms in the pool.)
La Luz doesn't have a pool at her house like I had growing up but it seems she shares the inclination. Allison got her a kiddie pool she splashes in out back, and last week we went to a new (to me) neighborhood pool that is designed for kids. It has cool fountains and it is only 4 feet deep, and it ramps to those depths very slowly. Fountains... that gives me an idea...

Eat table

Lucy now loudly resists insertion into her high chair. So we've been feeding her at her table. She actually refers to this by name, "Eat ... table. Eat ... table" instead of generic "Eat" to make clear that she will only accept eating at the table. She will often ask you to join by pulling a chair and saying "sit".
She likes it because she can eat one or fewer bites and then run around some, harass the dog, or chucks some food. We are told she eats well at daycare so I think she thinks our healthful spreads at home are for play.

I took la Luz to the zoo again last week. This time with Elephants* and petting goats**!
*Last time elephants remained hidden
** Lucy was asleep by the petting zoo before.

Potty Time

Quick update for those of you that don't follow me on facebook.  Lucy has recently started sporadically using the potty.  Tonight she peed in the potty for the third time.  I'm not really pushing it (mainly because I'm seriously freaked out by potty training paraphernalia) but I do ask her before dinner, after dinner and before and after bath time if she would like to use the potty.  She always says yes, but thus far has only delivered three times.  Again, there's no rush- I hadn't even really started thinking about potty training.  She gets very excited after she uses the potty because she gets to flush.  Man, does she love to flush!
I went to Target today looking for some of the before mentioned creepy paraphernalia and didn't have much luck finding what we needed.  Lucy just recently grew into her 18 month old sized clothes and even though everyone swears they make pull-ups, and training pants in small sizes the smallest I could find was a 2T, which isn't even close.  Looks like I'm gonna have to pay Mimsy to sew us some itty bitty training panties.  I'm going to cruise the internet for training pants now- wish me luck!

Why babies are Cool

Lucy this time last year- she had just gotten her first haircut.  She can't even sit up unassisted yet!
Me this time last year: still had the nose ring, which was awesome.  I think for my 30th I might get it redone (or maybe that would just be really sad, it's hard to tell...)
Both of us just one short year later.  I'm pretty much the same sans nose ring and the hair is slightly shorter, and I might actually be fatter, but I digress...  Check Lucy out.  She's the one wearing the shirt that says "Lucy" and I'm glad I labeled her because she doesn't look anything like the baby in the first picture.  It's amazing to me that so much could be so different just 12 short months later.

the playlist

La Luz's current favorites:
Songs:
Elizabeth Mitchell - anything but especially Alphabet Dub ("Ayceebee!") and Car Car ("car car")
Feist - 1,2,3,4 (Sesame Street version preferred, original accepted)
Her favorite song as a baby was Wilco's "What light" but she's mostly over it.
as for live singing she still like's "itsy itsy spider" ("deeee!") and "Raindrops" ("aah aah aah")
Videos:
Farm videos. I like the lambs best but I don't think she has much of a preference.
