I'm making Lucy write thank you notes for all of her birthday gifts. She's got A LOT to write and she's only about five in because she takes such care with each one. She writes the note- sounding out the words and then personalizes each with a picture. Watching her bent over the page with her eyebrows knitted together in concentration breaks my heart in the best way. She's so authentically invested in this task of saying thanks. I must channel this energy next time I have to write thank you notes.

"I can't tell you."
"Really?  I may have to tickle it out of you."
"Ok, we were at the Chocolate store."
Wes interrupts "Lucy!  Don't tell her that!"
Lucy corrects "We went to the farmer's market but we didn't get anything because we forgot our bags."

Clearly, the in-car coaching kicked in a little late on that one.  I promise to act surprised.
