Potty Training

For those of you that follow me on facebook you know that we are potty training. The first two days were unbelievably awful. I was frustrated, Lucy was frustrated and wet, and my washing machine was begging for mercy. Lucy peed on everything in the house twice and a few things elsewhere. I was ready to pack it in. I bought a bunch of diapers and planned to wait a month or two and try again. Then, probably because I'd dropped some cash on diapers, she just got it. I can count the accidents she's had since that day on one hand. She wears big girl panties except at naptime and bedtime and she will (almost) always tell you when she needs to go. She has had a few accidents since then (sorry Christi, sorry Oakhurst playground), but overall, I've been impressed. When am I going to finally realize that as far as this parenting thing goes if you go with the flow things tend to just work themselves out?
Look how proud she is of herself.
Of course, I also think the "Lucy pee peed in the potty" dance had something to do with the miraculous transformation. No, I will not be posting video of me doing this dance, but if you come over for a visit and ask nicely I might show you.
I asked Wes the other day how he felt about having a big girl instead of a baby now. He said "Well, I don't guess I've got much of a choice." I would just like to take this opportunity to reiterate that it doesn't matter how big she gets or how many grown up things she can do. She will ALWAYS be my baby.

Quote it

"I'm cuidadoing"

Lucy

Sent from my iPhone

- Cuidado is Spanish for "be careful". I say it to Lucy sometimes when she is engaged in an activity demanding caution. So I said "Cuidado" she said "I'm cuidado-ing"

Meeting Cousin Jamie

A couple of months ago (about 4 to be not-so-exact) Lucy acquired a new cousin- baby Jamie. He is precious and so easy going. Lucy was very excited to meet him this past weekend, and immediately demanded to "hold him." She patted him gently and smiled at him adoringly.
Then lost interest. Such is life with a 2yr old. Luckily, this left lots of time for me to snuggle him. Honestly, I think Jamie preferred me to Lucy anyway.

I Remember

Some people say they can't remember what it was like not to have children. I remember. I remember pedicures (see above for photographic evidence of first pedi in almost 2yrs) and manicures. I remember sleeping until 11a on a Saturday then rolling out of bed to go to a brunch that was un-rushed and quiet. I remember long solitary baths. I remember not depending on caffeine for my very survival. I remember peeing by myself. I remember perky boobs and a flat tummy. I remember watching TV in the middle of the day that was not animated. I remember all of these things really really well. Some days I miss these things more than others. I miss the leisure that I didn't realize I had. I miss the freedom. BUT (and you knew this part was coming) I wouldn't trade it for anything. I wouldn't give back a second with my bathroom invading, time sucking, attention hogging, early morning waking, perfect gift from God. I wouldn't trade a single memory of a sleepless night or disastrous dinner outing. I wouldn't give any of it back and I think that is a measure of just how much I love Lucy, because y'all know how much I love to sleep.

Easter Pre-Show

The weekend before Easter we headed to Athens for a whirlwind weekend complete with a yard sale (hooray for getting rid of stuff!), a trip to Chuck-E-cheese, and an Easter egg hunt. One might think Lucy would have used this opportunity to hone her egg hunting skills, but on the actual day she didn't perform nearly as well (post to come).
Uncle Kevin hosted a pre- Easter weekend Easter egg hunt.
It took Lucy a little while to figure out what she was supposed to be doing, but once she did- there was no stopping her.
Since his parents refuse to update their blog- here is sweet Haden. He's looking pretty grown up don't you think? Lucy and Haden are such sweet friends. We are blessed to have him and his "no-blog-updating" family. Lucy and Haden were born within two weeks of each other. It is crazy (and a little sad) how fast they have changed from little lumps that couldn't hold up their own heads into these two sassy, smart, sweet little kids. That's right, not babies- kids.
There's something in this?
Candy- got it. 'nuf said.
