Kansas City

Three weeks ago Wes and Lucy and I took a long weekend trip to Missouri to visit our friends Tim and Trinity and their menagerie.  We had a great time.  They have a big old house that is fabulous and a large backyard where they grow all sorts of things (as you saw in earlier pictures).
Trinity and Tim took us to a couple of bar-b-que places to pick our favorite.  Of course Wes and I picked two different places as our favorite.  Lucy has yet to reveal which was her favorite.
Kansas city is the city of fountains so we found one of those to look at for awhile too.  We all had such a nice time catching up and spending time with good friends.  It was a good weekend.

Lucy's Professional Pictures

Lucy's full proof gallery is up on Oana's website now until June 2nd, when like many magical things, they will vanish into the ether.  If you're interested in supporting this amazing artist by purchasing prints, this can also be done from the gallery.
Once there select "the work" then "proofs" the password is lucy.  So many beautiful pictures- I dare you to find a bad one in the bunch!

Strawberries

Lucy and I had a blast with Haden and his family picking strawberries this weekend. Lucy and Haden fought like cats and dogs most of the weekend. They have simultaneously hit the "NO, MINE!" phase so we had some tense moments, but as you can see they were able to put their differences aside to attempt to eat all the ripe strawberries on the farm before we left. There were also goats to feed and we had a nice picnic at the farm.
Today I made strawberry jam from our strawberries. I'm pretty proud of myself- I even put it in mason jars. Hopefully, we'll be able to go back to the farm in June or July for some blue berries!

CAT!!!

Lucy had a great time chasing Tim and Trinity's cat, Benton, all over the place while we were in Kansas City.  Benton was mostly a good sport and Lucy just couldn't get enough.  She is an intrepid cat hunter.  The key is shouting CAT! CAT! CAT! over and over.  Cats like that.

I OUTSIDE!

" I OUTSIDE!" Is what Lucy exclaimed when we took her out to see the new backyard Mimsy fixed for her while I was at work this weekend.  Grand Dad babysat while Mimsy dug and planted and watered and these are the results!  Up until now our backyard had been off limits to Lucy because it was a mud pit.  We have a drainage issue that caused water to pool so Mimsy regraded the yard.  We are so thrilled with the results. It rained this morning and the water did not make a muddy mess- woo hoo!
Do you hear that?  It's me and Lucy cheering for our awesome outdoor space!  And thank you Grand Dad for baby-wrangling while Mimsy landscaped.  I know how exhausting baby wrangling can be!
Lucy absolutely adores her sand and water table.  She played with it intently for half an hour and I didn't have to do anything.  There's a chance I might be able to read an entire Newsweek article while she plays with her table.  Now all I need is an outdoor chair.
The reward for hard work- getting to play with a happy baby!

Before and After

Everyday I take pleasure in picking out a cute outfit for my baby girl and fixing her hair.  I try to do a different hairdo each day, but pigtails are by far my favorite, however, they seem to be pretty short-lived.  I send her off to Bobbies looking like a sweet pixie and this is what comes home:
The pigtails are still in- you just can't see them because they're laying flat!  This is my rag-a-muffin!  I love her energy!

Cousin Marissa

Two weeks ago cousin Marissa stopped by on her way to Oklahoma.  (She's moving there with her mom and dad).  The girls played together and got sneaky about getting strawberry slices off the counter together.  We weren't able to catch a good picture, but at one point both their little hands were fishing in this bowl for strawberries.  Lots of effort for something we would have given them anyway!  We hope we get to see Marissa and her family again very soon!

The Zoo

The Very Funny Caterpillar

Wes and I found a caterpillar on the back porch one afternoon recently while Lucy was napping.  When she woke up I took her out to see it.  She pointed and laughed hysterically, but absolutely did not want that thing touching her.  He eventually made an escape through the slates on the deck, but Lucy got at least a half hour of entertainment out of watching him pretty much just sit there.  I tried to get her to say caterpillar but she just called him a "puh"

Lucy's favorite animal at the zoo?

a roly poly.
