Wes's friends meet Lucy

Cricket visited the first half of last week to meet Lucy and try some Atlanta Yoga studios. He aslo got some practice with la Luz as he will be a 1st string babysitter if we ever move to NYC. David + Michelle visited the 2nd half of the week. They live in LA so Lucy had a week of sort of bicoastal socialization.

A Letter to Marissa

Dear Marissa,
You are the coolest older cousin ever and I want to be just like you.  Everyday I ask mom "Can I eat peas like Marissa?" "Can I crawl like Marissa?" "Can I sit up by myself like Marissa?" and everyday her reply is the same- "Not today", until today!  Today I asked "Can I get my ears pierced like Marissa's?"  And mom said Yes!  We went to the pediatrician's office and I got beautiful sparkly earrings.  It hurt a little, but not any worse than all those vaccinations they insist on giving me.  I feel like I am so much cooler than I was yesterday because I'm more like you, Marissa.  Thanks for being a cousin I can look up to!
love,
Lucy
Addendum: From Lucy's Mom
Lucy was once again a real trouper while we poked holes in her little body.  She hasn't complained since the initial hole poking so I think we're going to be fine.  I think the earrings look huge in her ears, but it's probably just because she has tiny little ears.
Over the weekend we went to Milledgeville to visit with some relatives and Lucy got to hang out with Marissa a little bit.  When we left Lucy would not stop talking about Marissa this and Marissa that.  I keep telling her that soon very soon she will catch up and the three months age difference will seem like nothing, but Lucy seems to be in a big hurry to grow up.  I know to Lucy time seems to be moving slowly, but to me it's zipping by at light speed.  I wish the days would slow down so I can catch my breath and really marinate in the miracles that happen everyday.

First Tooth, etc

Lucy has been very busy this past week.  During the first part of the week she was busy making a tooth in secret.  Neither Wes or I had a clue she was teething.  On Monday when Wes picked her up from daycare her babysitter told him about the tooth she found.  She said that she had noticed Lucy trying to put her whole hand in her mouth (she's been doing this for awhile, but I just thought she was working on a party trick) so she felt around in her mouth and low and behold a tooth just barely peeking through the gum on the bottom.  I immediately freaked out because I was supposed to have another couple of months before I had to deal with teething.  I ran out and stocked up on orajel and teething rings (which she loves- see photo) and started reading everything I could on teething.  Some good news I learned- the first two teeth are supposed to be the most trouble- and we didn't even notice the first one until it had already broken the surface!  Lucy is pointing to it in one of the pictures (see it?).
Today she had her 4 month check up and her doctor confirmed the presence of the tooth.  Her doctor also verified that she is perfect in every way.  I asked about starting solids and she said that since we were doing so well with breast feeding we should hold off on solids until she is closer to six months.  I was really looking forward to feeding her cereal, but as the doctor said- she's got the whole rest of her life to eat solids.  Lucy is meeting all of her developmental milestones and the doctor was really impressed with her hair!  In conclusion I will leave you with her latest stats
weight: 12lbs 5oz (25th percentile)
height: 25in (75th percentile)
head circumference: 16.5in (75th percentile)
Oh yeah after all the build up the ped. didn't want to vaccinate (see her bandaids in the pic?) and pierce ears on the same day so we've got to go back for the bling.

Mom back from Africa trip

Wes's fam visited on Saturday after picking mom up at the airport. Everybody looks at this blog! Just kidding, we are looking at Mom's pictures from her South African bicycle trip. La luz explains to Uncle Josh why UCLA will never win the Final Four. Thanks Lucy, pops could have used this advice a couple weekes ago when he filled out his bracket. Josh agrees to hold Lucy now that she is no longer a limp neck.

Puppet show

Josh demonstrates the Elephant puppet mom brought Lucy from South Africa.

Grasping

Lucy is figuring out how her hands work these days.  I think it's starting to click that if she wants it she can grab it.  She is now pulling at my clothes while she nurses and she can grab the strap of my cami and then pull and release!  This makes her stop nursing so she can look up at me and grin.  She thinks mommy squealing "Ow!" is hilarious.  She can also grab your hair now too.  As you can see from the pictures this is also hilarious.  She gets cuter and smarter everyday.  Her hair continues to grow longer- doesn't look like it's going to fall out.  We're starting to wonder if we should schedule her a haircut appointment!
Next week is her 4 month check up.  We'll get an updated weight then and she's going to get her ears pierced!
