The Funny Things She Says

Lucy says a hundred funny things everyday and I always tell myself I'll remember them and then by the end of the day they've faded away. I am going to try to remember and share a few of my favorites from the recent past in this post. If you've heard them before, I apologize, but everyone who knows me knows I'm notorious for telling the same stories over and over.

I told her she was smart and she replied: Yes, I am. Obama is president. (Wes has been quizing Lucy on politics recently)

Pointing at the Christmas tree: Look what I made!

In the Target parking lot: There's an owl in my nose.

After I told her we were going to meet our friend Cricket for dinner: We having dinner with grasshopper?

When Ella is acting nutty: Ah-la's freaking out (actually something Wes and I say all the time, but hearing your two year old say it is funny especially because she says Ah La instead of Ella)

To Wes in the car: Where we goin' next? To Leapin Lizards? To the zoo? To Ms. Bobbie's house? To farmer's market? To get some gas? To get a chicken nugget? To get some french fries? (Apparently, these are the places we take her most often?)

To Bobbie when she asked what she did this weekend: I put Dora in a box. (We undecorated the Christmas tree and she took the Dora ornament off and put it in the box)

When I put a headband on her for the first time: I'm a girl now!

When driving through West Point on the way home from Fantasy in Lights we pointed out we were in West Point.

She replied: No! It's MY point!

Wes said: No it's the name of the place. WesT point with a "T".

Lucy: It's MY point.

Wes: No I don't own it, not Wes's point, West Point.

Lucy: MYYYY point.

Wes: You are being irrational, I don't think you would even want West point if you knew what it was.

Lucy: It's MYYYY point.

(she apparently thought we said Wes's point)

Pink Pig

La Luz went to ride the pink pig last week, which is a small slow moving train in a mall parking lot. But she loved it. So much so that she got very upset after her second ride was over, and it was time to go. Maybe the back to back rides lead her to believe we could stay on as long as we wanted and we were just being mean making her get off. Either way she fussed about it for a long time (look at the last pictures where she's wearing the sticker, she's upset.)
Afterwards, Eats.

Liar Liar

Tonight Lucy told her first official lie. It was so darn cute I had trouble laying the smack down. In fact, the first two times she told the lie I let it slide, but had to call her out the third time.
Lucy did not nap today because she was too wired up from playing with Haden, then we went to his birthday party. She passed out in the car on the way home, and I had a hard time getting her to wake up for dinner. I decided to put her to bed early due to these circumstances. The usual night time battle ensued, but with a new twist this time. Usually, she lays in bed and chats and sings and fusses, but tonight I heard her get out of the bed (the one time squeaky floorboards actually come in handy).
I went up to see what was going on. When I opened the door she was standing in the middle of the room and she said "I fell out of the bed." Poor thing. I might have believed her if she did not then ask for her pillow and water, which I found along with her baby doll in the corner on the far side of the room. So I asked her how they ended up over there. She said "they fell out the bed too" Um hmmmm
I tucked her back in and went back downstairs. 5 minutes later the story repeats itself. The third time I went up I had to tell her that I knew she and her pillow, water, and doll had not fallen out of the bed and landed all the way across the room. I had to threaten her with loss of said doll if she got out of bed again. 20 minutes later she was asleep.

Breakfast w/ Santa

Lucy went to breakfast with Santa last weekend with her daycare crew and her daycare keeper, Ms. Bobbie. She sat on Santa's lap w/ no crying just sort of a "why am I here" attitude about it. She spaced on her supposed tricycle request and asked for a "babydoll" at Ms. Bobbie's suggestion.

Birthday Party

Pool report:
After a morning excursion to a "Breakfast w/ Santa" (pictures tk) LOL, AEL, + WRL returned to residence. LOL was put down for a nap approximately 1:30p. No actual sleeping was reported. First guests arrived before 3p, significantly before party's announced start time at 4p.
Not actually being asleep LOL was allowed to come downstairs. WRL had applied many of the party's decorations (incandescent paper stars and green and pink paper streamers). LOL entered and yelled "it's party time!"
More guests arrived 3:30 - 4:30p, including all four GPs. Young guests took turns on tiny drum set (LOL's principal birthday gift given on Dec 3). Adults chatted and ate from buffet (cheese, sandwhiches, fruit, sodas, no alcohol)
First party agenda item was craft lead by AEL, decorating picture frames.
LOL initiated opening of gifts approx 4:30p.
There were many many gifts. The most common items were wooden food toys and Dora the Explorer themed toys.
Most toys were opened, played with and strewn about. Next item: Cake. Brthday song sung and LOL blew out the candles on her cake (vanilla cake with Green icing, with pink stars and "Happy Birthday Lucy" in pink script. Also white trim) . AEL sliced cake. Cake was dispensed to guests, a la mode upon request. post cake LOL played with tea set for a considerable amount of time. Using real tea and water she proceeded to make a mess leading to a wardobe change (original outfit consisted of a customized shirt reading "Lucy 2", matching bloomers and her signature tutu) at approx 6pm your pooler was escorted out, party was still going full strength. From outside saw WRL leave around 6:15p. Other guests filtered out shortly thereafter.

Mr. Cricket

La Luz also wants to note that she got a visit from Mr. Cricket (also known as grasshopper) last week. He had a meal with her and gave her a present - a cool book called ABC NYC. Ever since she has been talking about moving to New York...

Princess day at GA Aquarium

Granny babysat la Luz this weekend. We went to the Aquarium on Saturday for princess day (all girls dressed as princesses get in free) and cousins Mark, Carmen, Summer (also a princess) and Ivy joined us. It was crowded but the princesses had a good time. In these pictures la Luz is giving lectures as usual.

Build-A-Bunny

Today Lucy and I attended the birthday party of one of her daycare buddies. The party was at Build-A-Bear at the Mall of Georgia (read: you're not getting out of here without spending at least $20). The Mall of Georgia is not close to our house, but in the name of making sure Lucy's social life gets off on the right foot, we made the trek. Lucy has recently stopped sleeping- no naps and she's not falling asleep at night until 10:30-11p so she was in a super mood when we left the house. I was anticipating a disaster of magnificent proportions, but I was pleasantly surprised. She picked out a bunny to build. None of the other kids picked the bunny- I thought this was significant because had it been me I would have gotten whatever all the other kids were picking, but not Lucy she wanted the bunny and did not care that just about everybody else got a turkey. She didn't like the machine that stuffed the animals because it was too loud, but she liked picking out clothes for it. I tried to sway her in the direction of a ballerina costume or a princess dress, but Lucy selected a pink sequined top and jeans and some ugg boots (I also pushed for converse footwear, but she wasn't having it). And the icing on the cake- she named her Penelope. I gave her several name options and Penelope was her choice. She actually says "Eh low pee."
All this to say- she is my child, but she is not me. She is becoming her own person more and more everyday. I am equally delighted and confused by our many differences. As we approach her second birthday I love seeing her personality blossom and grow.

Morning Person

Wes and I are not morning people. We are very extremely a lot NOT morning people. We are two un-morning people living in a morning person's world. Lucy is currently very much a morning person. I feel certain that at some point her night owl gene will kick in and she will happily sleep until 10-11am, but until that day comes Wes gets to hear this on the baby monitor shortly after I leave for work (as sent to me via email this morning):
7a mommmy mooooooomy mooooooomy. come in my room. im not sleepy any moooore. mooomy. listen to me. papa? paaaaaaaapa. im not sleepy anymore. im not sleepy anymooore.

Halloween 2009

Lucy had her first real trick or treating experience last weekend. She caught on really fast. She would say "trick or treat! give us something good to eat!" and hold her little bag open. She's not a huge fan of chocolate, but she can put away some dum dums. She and Haden were the cutest gnomes I've ever seen. I mean check out sweet girls little legs! It's enough to give me a tooth ache.

They had a little fishing thing with magnets. We tried to get la luz to pose with the fish like a sportsmen. She didnt get it. But i look crazy enough for the both of us. Later we tried to get her to say "the fish was THIS BIG". But she kept saying "it was LITTLE". Lots to learn about fishing.

Swim Class

Lucy recently started swim class with Dynamo at Agnes Scott College. This week Mimsy took her while I was at work. Grand Dad and Aunt Susan and Aunt Sally went along too. Aunt Sally brought her camera, which is awesome because otherwise we may never have gotten photographic evidence of Lucy's swim lessons. Here are a few of the fish-girl in action. And thanks to Mimsy for being such a good sport (she even got her hair wet).
This is her favorite game- kicking and reaching for the duckies to gather them up and put them back in the bucket.
Learning to jump in.
Learning how to get out. She just needs a little boost.
Watching her instructor Miss Denise demonstrate with her baby Pumpkin.
